Check Your Heating System Before Winter Kicks In

- 3:23 pm - October 11th, 2017

Holiday shopping may not be in full swing just yet, but winter is right around the corner. Before the freezing temperatures and blizzards start rolling in, check on the health of your heating system! Here’s how:

  1. Begin by setting your thermostat to the on or heat position.
  2. Turn the temperature up to at least 10 degrees higher than room temperature.
  3. Listen for your heating equipment to start up (it should turn on within a few minutes).
  4. If it doesn’t turn on, press the reset button on the burner’s relay only once.
  5. If step 4 doesn’t work, check to see if the emergency switches are off (note that there may be two: one at the stairs and one at the heating system), and check your electrical panel for tripped breakers and blown fuses.

If you’ve gone through all of these steps and your heating system won’t start up, call Dominick at 203-866-5836 and we’ll send an experienced technician over to fix the problem.

You can also perform routine maintenance tasks to keep things running smoothly. This includes checking your windows and doors for leaks and cracks, cleaning air filters and replacing them if necessary, and most importantly, scheduling your heating system’s annual tune-up. If you have a Heating Service Plan or Oil Heat Maintenance Savings Plan the tune-up is covered. If you don’t have a plan, just look at all the reasons you should. Contact us today to learn more about our service and maintenance plans.
